28.7¢/kWh vs. 16.4¢/kWh... a 75% difference. And the three year trend is not ideal for National Grid or Eversource customers in Massachusetts. You can see the trend here using the latest data from the eia.gov:

There is good news

You are not stuck with Eversource or National Grid's default electricity generation rates. If you have these utilities you can elect to get an alternative rate plan, and right now there are many out there that are lower.

The problem is going at it on your own typically leads to a fine print problem. You may run into hidden fees or signing up for a short-term fixed electricity supply rate, that then goes variable, and then next thing you know it was higher than you were paying before anyway.

If you do want to look around, look for:

• Fine print of fees or fixed charges

• Fixed term length

• Early termination fees

Or... you can just have Arbor do it for you for free.

Here is the easiest way to pay less

Arbor is a completely free service that will take a look at your current electricity supply rate - which is the main portion of your bill - and do all the work to get you a lower fixed rate that is lower than you are paying now with National Grid or Eversource. The only change will be that you see a lower supply rate on your usual monthly bill. The bill still comes from the utility, as well as the same reliable power.

It's free because electricity generators pay Arbor to get them more customers on their alternative fixed rate plans.

Signing up is all online and takes a couple of minutes. Just share your rate with us by uploading a picture of your bill or linking your account. Once Arbor finds you a better rate, Arbor will send you a confirmation of the details and how much you can save. If you like it, Arbor will do all the work coordinating getting it on your next bill with the supplier and utility.

The best part? Arbor keeps finding you low fixed rates after the end of your fixed rate term, and if Arbor can't beat the utility default rate, Arbor will put you back on utility default rate as a backstop. You may also cancel the rate anytime. You can sign up in two minutes right here.
