Appalachian Power Company is an electric service provider that supplies to over 5 million customers in and around the Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia service areas, including regions such as Southwest Virginia, Charleston, Roanoke, and Columbus. Appalachian Power is part of the American Electric Power System and is headquartered in Columbus Ohio. This article explains how the Appalachian Power bill payment system works, along with how to set up and manage your Appalachian Power account.
Residential and commercial customers in Ohio and West Virginia can purchase a deregulated electricity plan from one of the several electricity distribution systems and suppliers in those regions. Their selected suppliers will then work with Appalachian Power to maintain energy efficiency and prevent interruptions in the delivery.
The current Price to Compare (default supply price) for the Appalachian Power electricity supply is currently $0.11 per kWh for residential customers. Commercial/business customers have to pay according to their utility consumption and usage. In case you choose one of the competitive electricity utility companies in the area, you may receive special pricing and incentives, as well as high safety standards and reliable delivery. However, there is no guarantee that you will save money on the total bill for both utilities.
There are four ways you can pay your Appalachian Power bill.
Online: Once you have created an energy supply account with the company, you can pay through an online payment account or as a guest (via a utility account number and zip code). If you have AutoPay set up, the payment will automatically be deducted from your account. You can also pay via credit/debit card or eCheck.
Pay by Phone: You can call Appalachian Power at 1-800-956-4237 to make payments via credit/debit card or electronic funds transfer.
In-Person: You can pay in-person at authorized payment locations.
Mail: You can mail your payment via money order or check.

Appalachian Power offers several ways to pay your electricity bills. These include debit card payments, credit card payments, bank drafts, in-person payments, payments via mail, and phone payments.
Additionally, they provide two different payment options for each customer to choose from:
Payment Extensions – You can extend your bill payment up to a period based on your financial capacity and payment history.
Assistance Programs – You can choose from several payment assistance programs to help pay your energy bills. These include programs such as the West Virginia 20% Winter Discount, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), and the Life Support Energy Program, among others.
Furthermore, the Neighbor To Neighbor Program (in collaboration with the Dollar Energy Fund) offers payment assistance to households that are undergoing severe financial difficulty or are unable to pay their bills due to unforeseen circumstances.
Deregulated energy plans allow customers to choose from several rates from multiple competitive energy distributors and suppliers. Check the ‘Price to Compare’ — Appalachian Power’s default rate — and compare it with licensed electricity supplier prices.
Arbor’s free TrueRate Protection is the best way to ensure that you always pay the lowest rate against your current ‘Price to Compare.’
For example, Appalachian Power’s current electricity Price to Compare is 11.1 cents per kWh. Arbor scans the electricity utility markets for the best rates, and will generally find lower rates than your current supplier’s price.
When your term is expiring, Arbor finds the best rate and switches you again. You always pay the best rate and never have to worry about overpaying for electricity ever again.
You can use the free savings calculator to find out how much you could save in each case. Electricity payments can be complicated, that's why a lot of people trust Arbor to manage their electricity service, so they end up saving on their energy bills.
