Orange & Rockland Utilities (ORU) was founded as Rockland Light & Power Co. in Nyack. It was later merged with the Orange and Rockland Electric Company. All New Yorkers and New Jersey residents can choose who supplies their electricity. Orange and Rockland deliver your electricity but don’t necessarily have to supply it. While the delivery charges are fixed, you can choose other suppliers to provide better supply charges and plans.

There are five ways to pay your Orange and Rockland bill. You can change your payment method at any time.

Budget Billing: You can set up Budget Billing to avoid seasonal spikes by receiving the same bill amount every month. Your monthly bill depends on your historical use, weather forecasts, and potential price changes. You can sign up and learn more here.
Bill Extender: You can apply for a Bill Extender if your fixed income or Social Security check arrives after the due date. You can extend the due date by up to 45 days. You can contact customer assistance to learn more and enroll.
Payment Extensions: You can get a payment extension of up to 10 days if you need more time to pay your bill.
Get Well First: If you’re in the hospital or medically indisposed, you can get a due date extension.
Payment Agreements: You can get a Payment Agreement offer if you’ve received a final termination notice and can’t pay your bill.
Special Services: If you’re 62 years or older, have any form of impairment or disability, you can qualify for special protection.
Payment Assistance: You can receive payment assistance if you’re having trouble paying your bill. In New York, you can apply for Home Energy Assistance. In New Jersey, you can apply for the LIHEAP Emergency Fund, LIHEAP, Home Energy Assistance, Universal Service Fund (USF), New Jersey Lifeline Credit, NJ SHARES, and the Payment Assistance for Gas and Electric (PAGE) Program.
